Jessie Wingate is a parent, poet, and floral designer living on unceded Ohlone land in California.

Jessie grew up on Timucuan land in Daytona Beach, Florida and was educated at the University of California, Berkeley (BA History of Art) and San Francisco State University (MA Art History). She attended Chestnut Review’s writing retreat in 2023.

“Jessie Wingate” is a pen name taken from Jessie’s namesake and great great grandmother. The real Jessie Wingate was born in 1878 in Iowa. She birthed 3 daughters and 5 sons before dying of a pulmonary embolism at the tender age of 54.
